Auto-Summary
Let Clearminutes automatically summarize your meetings as soon as you stop recording.

What Auto-Summary Does
When enabled, Clearminutes automatically:
- Transcribes the meeting using Whisper (happens first)
- Extracts key points, action items, and topics
- Generates a summary in the background
- Notifies you when ready to view
All processing happens on your device. No audio is sent anywhere.
Enable Auto-Summary
- Go to Settings → Summary
- Toggle Auto-Summary to On
- Choose your preferred model:
- Built-in AI (fast, local, recommended)
- Claude (detailed, requires API key)
- Groq (very fast, requires API key)
- OpenRouter (flexible, requires API key)
- Save

Auto-Summary Workflow
Processing Time
Summary generation speed depends on:
Note: Processing time varies by model size and hardware. GPU acceleration significantly reduces time for built-in models.
Background Processing
Summaries generate in the background — you don't need to wait:
- Stop recording
- Summary processing starts automatically
- You can close the meeting, browse other meetings, etc.
- Notification appears when summary is ready
- Click notification to view, or open meeting manually
You'll see a "Generating summary..." indicator in the meeting list.
What Gets Summarized
Auto-summary includes:
- Key Points: Main topics and decisions
- Action Items: Tasks assigned with owners
- Topics: Discussion breakdown by topic
- Metadata: Meeting date, duration, speakers
Not included:
- Full transcript (always available separately)
- Audio file (stored separately)
- Edit history

Skip summary for very short meetings:
- Go to Settings → Summary → Auto-Summary Options
- Enable Only for meetings longer than X minutes
- Set threshold (e.g. 15 minutes)
- Short meetings skip summary (faster)
Disable for Specific Tags
Don't summarize certain meeting types:
- Go to Settings → Summary → Skip Tags
- Add tags (e.g. "standup", "casual")
- Meetings with these tags skip auto-summary
Useful for:

Disable Auto-Summary Temporarily
For a specific meeting or session:
- Go to Settings → Summary
- Toggle Auto-Summary to Off
- Manually generate summaries as needed with the Summarize button
- Turn back on when ready
Or disable for specific meeting types using "Skip Tags" (see above).
Troubleshooting Auto-Summary
Summary not appearing after 10 minutes
- Check Settings → Activity to see processing status
- Try clicking Regenerate Summary to retry
- Check internet connection (if using cloud models)
- Verify API key is valid (if using Claude/Groq)
- Check available disk space
Summary is too short or too long
- Edit the custom prompt in Settings → Summary → Custom Prompt
- Try different model (Gemma is usually more concise)
- Manually edit sections after generation
Wrong language detected
- Go to Settings → Transcription → Language
- Set language manually before recording
- Re-generate summary after fixing transcript language
Summary keeps failing
- Verify your API key (if using cloud model)
- Try switching to built-in AI (local, no API key needed)
- Check available system memory (close other apps)
- Update Clearminutes to latest version
- Check logs: Settings → Advanced → View Logs
Auto-Summary vs Manual Summary
Manual summaries are available on the free plan. Auto-Summary requires Pro. Use auto-summary for routine meetings. Use manual when you want to control timing or try a different model.
Impact on Performance
Auto-summary impact on your device:
- Minimal during recording (processing only starts after you stop)
- CPU usage increases during transcription and summary generation (expected)
- Memory usage depends on meeting length and models used
- Disk space needed for models and cache (~5-10 GB total)
If auto-summary slows down your device:
- Close other apps during processing
- Reduce Whisper model size (use "base" instead of "large-v3")
- Switch to faster summarizer (Groq or built-in AI)
